Qualifications Required
Experience working on summer trail crew at Sun Peaks.Experience working in a winter Operations department.
Minimum 3 seasons experience operating backhoes, excavators and other heavy equipment.
Mature person with a very strong work ethic and interpersonal skills.
A team player, self-motivated, with proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate others.
Able to think, react and communicate under pressure.
Excellent working knowledge of the Sun Peaks physical plant and summer operations.
A good listener, able to follow instruction closely.
An excellent communicator, both written and verbal.
Excellent time management and planning skills.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Must have a keen eye for close detail while still dealing with a larger scope.
Able to complete daily reports neatly, concisely, and legibly.
Willing and prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Must be in good physical shape, able to undertake constant hard physical work, and able to safely lift heavy objects.
Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean abstract (we will require a consent form signed so abstract can be checked).
Highly experienced operating all of the summer trails equipment.
A ”hands on” supervisor who leads by example.
Previous Wild Fire Suppression experience with valid S-100 certificate and OFA-1 as minimum.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule (weekends and holidays) as required by summer operating hours, special events and Fire Danger Rating.
Supply own CSA approved above ankle footwear, sunscreen and appropriate clothing.
Primary Responsibilities
Meet with staff at the start of each day and review work list, identify priorities, and then delegate tasks to the crew.Lead and document the morning safety meeting and review equipment needs, vehicle assignments, special instructions, PPE requirements, mountain information updates, weather, concerns and successes, etc., setting daily completion goals.
Ensure that equipment inventories are maintained and tools are available when needed.
Maintain crew equipment in top working order (chainsaws, brush cutters, fire pumps, etc) and ensure that appropriate action is taken to repair your tools.
Advance planning of future work to be done.
Daily progress tracking of work to ensure timely completion of the task before starting another.
Monitor work being done to ensure that all Work Safe regulations and SOP’s are followed daily and ensure that the crew is aware of safety concerns in and around the area they are working.
Be current with S100 Fire Suppression Training and be part of Sun Peaks Initial Fire Attack Crew.
Jobs may include but are not limited to; run maintenance (re-vegetation, clearing, brushing, maintaining run- off structures, signage, and improvements), cattle control (building and maintaining smooth wire fences, electric fences, gates, and cattle herding), landscaping (general maintenance and improvement of lawns, flower beds, and general resort beautification), erosion control, hiking trail sign installation and maintenance, bike trail maintenance, and ski run sign maintenance.
Ensure that the crew knows departmental and company goals, timelines, and objectives.
To assist other departments when required.
To treat co-workers and company equipment with the utmost respect.
Communicate problems, issues or “near misses” with your Manager as soon as possible.
Report Accidents or Incidents to your Manager immediately; and be available to assist on investigations if necessary.
Arrive at work on time and completely prepared for working outside in all conditions, (proper footwear, clothing, food/water, rain gear, PPE, and well rested)
Daily record keeping; to include vehicle check sheets, creek checks, reservoir checks, fuel logs, drainage inventory, etc.
Ensure that staff has signed in and out of the ADP System every work day.
Other jobs as assigned by the Slopes Manager.
Prompt return to work after breaks from work. Any food or supplies required for breaks will be taken to the worksite since breaks will be from time work stops until the time it starts again and does not include travel time.
