Qualifications Required

• Current OFA Level 3, O.E.C. Advanced First Aid (80 hours) with Advanced Protocols
• Current CPRC Certificate
• CAA Level I Avalanche ticket for ski operations, AST 1, AST 2 able to evaluate conditions and do ski cutting if required.
• Valid blasting ticket for avalanche controls an asset.
• Proven rope rescue skills for difficult belays, extrication’s, steep slope and lift evacuation.
• Minimum 4 years as paid patroller with at least 2 as Sun Peaks paid patroller.
• Know all Sun Peaks Resort Pre Opening Mountain Set Up routes and procedures..
• Proven, supervisory, leadership, coaching, team building, training and motivational skills.
• Proven self-motivated with a strong work ethic and able to work productively with limited supervision under the direction of the Patrol Director or assistant.
• Proficient in the instruction of all areas of patrol work as assigned by the Patrol Director, Assistant Patrol Director or Supervisor
• Additional leadership, management, coaching, teaching training and asset
• Demonstrated acceptable guest relation skills.
• Know Out of Bounds areas at Sun Peaks, SPRC policy pertaining to missing persons & avalanche response.
• Proficient in the safe operation of snowmobile in all conditions.
• High level of physical fitness free of injury with ability to carry pack with First Aid Gear, Self-Evacuation Equipment & Avalanche Rescue Gear as necessary on a daily basis / 25 lbs maximum.
• Strong toboggan handling / teaching skills in all terrain and snow conditions.
• Expert Alpine or telemark skier or boarder; able to ski all runs at Sun Peaks, in any snow conditions.
• Able to work outside in all weather conditions.
• Highly developed knowledge and understanding of ski area risk management and accident prevention
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Additional first aid training and experience an asset
• Additional leadership, management, coaching, teaching training and asset
• Continued responsibility to keep skill levels proficient.
• Must wear Approved Ski Helmet at all times when on hill.
• Willingness to take direction at all times in a positive manner from Risk Management Safety Director, Patrol Director, Assistant Patrol Director, EMRT Coordinator, CSP Team Leader.

Primary Responsibilities

• Take a positive leadership role in providing the highest possible standard of pre-hospital care and rescue services for our guests and employees as required by the Corporation.
• Take leadership role in manual lift evacuations when required, as directed
• Take a leadership role in ski cutting and avalanche control as required, as directed.
• Work and communicate effectively with outside agencies such as S.A.R., BC Ambulance, RCMP, EMRT, Fire Department, CSP, EMRT etc.
• Provide appropriate detailed direction to crew members by telling and showing them what is expected then following up by providing appropriate feedback on a task/daily/weekly/monthly basis as needed to ensure the development of each individual.
• Stand in for the Assistant Patrol Director when required.
• Know and be able to complete morning Pre-Opening Mountain Set Up routes in an acceptable and timely manner.
• Maintain all signage, fencing and closures as required and directed.
• Know and be able to complete sweep routes in an acceptable manner.
• Teach /Carry out Patrol Investigations completely and accurately when required to do so.
• Ensure proper signage is appropriately placed and maintained according to industry and company standards.
• Weather observation, reporting and documentation as required.
• Carry appropriate seasonal rescue and first aid equipment while working as required or directed.
• Proper utilization of all safety equipment required in the performance of daily activities.
• Follow the occupational health and safety regulations as laid out.
• Follow the developed Company Standard Operating Guidelines and Policies and Procedures as written.
• Proper assessment of risks/hazards and rectify as required to ensure the safety of self/other employees/contractors and guests.
• Ensure that Company equipment and facilities are maintained and cared for in an acceptable manner.
• Safely and carefully operate Company vehicles according to policy as directed.
• Ensure documentation/records/logs/daily check sheets/field books/first aid paper work are maintained, completed and accurate as directed by the company its policies and representatives.
• Prompt arrival at work in order to be ready to go to work at the predetermined time.
• Prompt return to work after breaks from work. Any food or supplies required for breaks will be taken to the worksite since breaks will be only from the time work stops until the time it starts again and does not include travel time to retrieve things.
• Willingly follow the directions as given by assigned supervisor, Managers or EMRT Coordinator.
• Adhere to company policy as it applies to your job and conduct while at work.
• High level of willing participation in all provided training with an acceptable level of proficiency.
• Instruct certain training items as directed.
• Take leadership role to initiate and participate in appropriate on going departmental and Corporation sponsored training.
• Take responsibility for your own personal development by taking training that may be applicable for the development of your career goals.
• Take personal initiative to identify and complete work projects.
• Be proactive in looking for and presenting ideas that will help patrol meet its objectives
• Be a positive role model/leader/coach and assist other employees and guests of the resort as required.
• Work cooperatively with all employees and departments as the need arises.
• Be able to provide mountain dispatch relief as required.
