As a Snow Sports School Instructor you must be physically able to work outside in all winter weather conditions while fully undertake teaching responsibilities pertinent to your certification level and discipline in a safe and diligent manner.
•You must be physically able to fully undertake teaching responsibilities pertinent to your certification level and discipline in a safe and diligent manner up to forty hours per week and eight hours per day.
•Able to work outside in all winter weather conditions including stormy and extremely cold conditions safely.
•High degree of physical fitness is initially required and daily maintenance of such condition as to reduce and or eliminate the risk of at work soft tissue stress. A department dry land training outline will be supplied for this purpose. Presently free of injuries that may obstruct daily duties.
•Perform Tree Well Safety Orientation – includes demonstration climbing into a tree well in a vertical position only.
•Snow Profile Observation Demonstration – digging snow profile pit to ground +- 2.5 meters to identify snowpack layers, per Canadian Avalanche Association Observation Guidelines and Recording Standards.
•Perform Snowpack “Shovel Shear” and “Compression” Tests per Canadian Avalanche Association Observation Guidelines and Recording Standards.
•Demonstrate and practice with guests, Avalanche Search and Rescue scenarios per Canadian Avalanche Association Standards utilizing transceiver, probe and shovel.
•Demonstrate digging a snow shelter pit (not cave or igloo) for cold exposure or overnight survival.
•Demonstrate how to build a fire for cold exposure or overnight survival.
•Demonstrate and practice with guest’s proper equipment use and technique for backcountry touring using skins, touring bindings and skis.
•Demonstrate “Single Rope Rescue” technique per Canadian Ski Guide Institute Standards.
•All activities outlined above require extensive hiking (in ski boots) and or All Terrain Backcountry Touring equipment, carrying a guide pack (18-25lbs) and skiing in variable snow conditions including in powder, on crusts and in wind deposited snow.
Your Responsibilities Will Include

Operating back country guiding and staff guide training programs.
•Direct product marketing to guests.
•Operate according to code of conduct and values statement of Sun Peaks Resort LLP and the Snow Sports School.
•Professional and current teaching certification with a nationally recognized organization (CSIA, CASI, CANSI or National equivalency). Current and in good standing guiding and avalanche certifications relevant to position and industry standards. (CSGA, AST, CAA)
•Proficient use of spoken English.
•Outstanding verbal communication skills with all age groups of guests.
•Polished interpersonal and motivational skills and highly organized.
•Proven track record in tourism guest services and as a team player.
•Legally able to work in Canada from November 2018 until April 2019.
•Willing to submit to an RCMP criminal record check.
•Undertake required daily duties as per SPR LLP operating guidelines.
•Comply with the Alpine Responsibility Code.
•Second language skills are an asset (e.g. Mandarin or Spanish).
•Extended sales training and/or experience is an asset.
•Dual or Multi snow sport certification i.e. CSIA and CASI.
•Several seasons’ previous lesson snow sports teaching experience.
•Previous guiding experience in the Heli or Cat industry.
•CSIA “Teaching Children” or national equivalent kids teaching module.
•Level 3 or Wilderness First Aid.
